If you have a problem in the workplace then you have the right to raise your concerns with your employer by way of a grievance.

An employer must listen to what an employee has to say and act reasonably in dealing with a complaint.

The employer must also follow the provisions of the “ACAS Code of Practice 1 – Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures”, which sets out the recommended way for dealing with grievances. A failure to follow the Code could see any compensation awarded to the employee increased by up to 25% if they later lodge a claim in the Employment Tribunal.

An employee wishing to lodge a grievance should make sure that they are fully prepared before they meet their employer and have a clear picture of the outcome they want to achieve. legal advice should be sought at an early stage to ensure that the grievance is as successful as possible.
